At the May 29th 2016 Naples Symphony performance of PI Tchaikovsky’s Symphony N2, aka “Little Russian” in English. Language is such a misleading and manipulative tool. Much more so than music. Music is pure and gives away all falsehoods to the listener. Language is capable of camouflage. Even when not masked by pronounciation, vocalization and intonation. In Russian, it’s Malorossiyskaya. This is a reference to Ukraine, dating to the Romanov rule. We always live in PC times. It was not PC to call it “Ukrainian” at the time of Tchaikovsky and it’s so not PC to call it “Little Russian,” especially when The Big Russian Bro is watching! And listening.
